Overview

The Department of Biomechanical Engineering, nestled within the Faculty of Engineering Technology (ET) at the University of Twente, is embarking on a pioneering venture. They are searching for a highly motivated individual to undertake a fully funded, four-year PhD project focused on developing technologies for dynamic and adaptable actuation in biomedical devices.

Key Objectives

The primary objective of this PhD position is to tackle the technical challenges associated with compression devices, particularly in their dynamic and adaptable actuation. These devices play a crucial role in various medical applications, ranging from rehabilitation to therapy. However, existing solutions often fall short in providing tailored and responsive compression, hindering their therapeutic effectiveness.

Your Role

As a prospective PhD candidate, you will delve into the realms of mechatronics, robotics, mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering. Your task will involve:

  • Developing technologies for dynamic and adaptable actuation in compression devices.
  • Designing ‘on-body’ applications with controlled and adaptable compression levels.
  • Exploring the potential for ‘in-body’ devices to aid internal organ functionality.
  • Collaborating within an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment.
  • Contributing to the advancement of medical device design and production.

Qualifications and Benefits

They are seeking Phd candidate who possess:

  • A master’s degree (or soon acquiring one) in relevant fields.
  • Profound knowledge in actuators & sensors, system engineering, and prototyping techniques.
  • Affinity with medical applications and device design.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and managerial skills.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.

In return, we offer:

  • A fully funded full-time 4-year PhD position.
  • Excellent mentorship within a stimulating international research environment.
  • A competitive starting salary with incremental growth over the duration of the position.
  • Flexible working arrangements, including the option to work partially from home.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including pension scheme and holidays.

Application Process

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply before February 29th, 2024, by submitting the following documents:

  • Motivation letter highlighting your interest and suitability for the position.
  • Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae demonstrating your academic and professional achievements.
  • Academic transcripts of BSc and MSc education.
  • Description of your most recent accomplishment.
  • References of two scientific staff members willing to provide recommendation letters.

Interviews will be conducted in two phases, with the first round scheduled before March 20th, 2024.
